🪷 INTRODUCTION
My father is wisdom,
my mother is emptiness.
My homeland is the realm of the Dharma.
I belong to no caste and no creed.
I am nourished by the mystery beyond all concepts;
and I am here
to tame passion, transform anger,
and destroy ignorance.— Guru Padmasambhava
The year of the monkey is known as the year of Guru Padmasambhava. It is a very special time to discuss his teachings.
According to the lunar calendar, today is the twenty-ninth day of the month, tomorrow is the new moon, and the following day is the first day of the third month of the Tibetan calendar. All of these circumstances are extremely auspicious.
I take this as a sign that all of you have a special connection with Guru Padmasambhava, and I feel very joyful to be here.
Those of you who are practicing Guru Padmasambhava through visualization, reciting the Seven Line Prayer, and chanting the Vajra Guru Mantra may already have some understanding of who Guru Padmasambhava is.
For those who are not yet familiar with him or with the benefits of practicing Guru Padmasambhava, I will present a brief introduction so that you may be in a better position to receive the teachings on his various manifestations.
In Tibetan, Guru Padmasambhava is commonly known as Guru Rinpoche, meaning “Precious Master.”
Guru Rinpoche is a fully enlightened being, a completely awakened one, a buddha. He did not attain enlightenment gradually, nor did he begin by practicing the teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni and then eventually reach realization.
Guru Rinpoche manifested in the form of a fully enlightened being. Through his form, primordial wisdom appeared in this world for the benefit of all sentient beings.
