About King Gesar
King Gesar is the legendary ruler of the Kingdom of Ling in western Tibet, who lived in the 11th century during a time when the Dharma was gravely threatened by opposing forces.
He is revered as the Great Lion Lord and the Mighty Warrior Deity of the world. In The Illusory Net of Mañjuśrī it is taught:
With the sword of wisdom, and with bow and arrow,
He battles and overcomes afflictions and ignorance.
O courageous warrior,
Tamer of demonic forces and all enemies.
According to great realized masters, King Gesar is:
-
An emanation of Bodhisattva Mañjuśrī,
-
A messenger of Guru Padmasambhava,
-
An emanation manifesting the enlightened activities of the Dharma King Trisong Detsen,
-
A great Vidyādhara, who attained immortality as a direct disciple of Lang Ami Changchub Drekol.
-
The present era is regarded as a time in which King Gesar continues to carry out his enlightened activities, as taught by treasure revealers and great masters such as Lharik Dechen Rolpa Tsal, the Glorious Heruka Do Khyentse Yeshe Dorje, Mipham Jampal Gyepa, and others.
